Anticip-a-a-a-tion It's making me crazy! I know that I'm a great teacher, and I know that I had some kick-ass interviews with great school districts for next year. I also know that my credential makes me hard to place right now. With the No Child Left Behind stuff in place, a multiple subject credential can be tough to fit into a middle school. I still have 3 more science classes to go before I will be able to teach single-subject science. That's another full school year at least. Between working full time and being a mom, I can't handle more than one class at a time. I could manage two if they didn't have the labs. That's what kills me--those nights where I don't get home until after 9pm! Anyway, I know that school districts don't have all of their current teachers placed yet. At the interviews they told me I wouldn't hear again until late April or, most likely, May. But, I'm tired of waiting! (*stamps her foot like a petulant child) This limbo place is hard. I want to know where I will be working next year. I'm a planner and it's not comfortable for me to have no idea about my future. If I have to stay at Sylvan-Jail, at least I am satisfied with my assignment for next year. I think it was supposed to be a slap in the face, but I'm thrilled. I will have 4 classes of Intensive remedial math and one class of science, all 7th graders. The math class is basically a study hall. The students will be working at their own pace, running their work through a scanner, and then either testing or relearning. My job will be to babysit, answer questions, and print papers from my computer. For 4 periods a day. Then, the one period of science will be all kids who are on grade level. I can actually extend beyond the state standards with this group. I already do a lot of projects, a lot of writing, and a lot of study skills in my science classes. But, knowing that I'll only have one class (instead of the current 3) to grade and knowing what they are capable of doing on their own....I can do some really fun projects with them! So, I'll use the 4 periods of math to get my lessons and grading done for science. And, I'll use my prep to do my school work, since it is for profressional development after all. I guess I'll enroll myself in the two Physics courses next year. It's one discipline I've never studied before, so I have been a bit intimidated. However, I should have tons of time to do my studying since I won't have much work to do!!! past | future0 comments Listening to: Reading: Eating/drinking: Do what to me?!? - April 24, 2007 Wicked funny websearch - April 05, 2007 Trot out the dogs 'n ponies - March 31, 2007 Almost done... - March 20, 2007 Who am I? - March 12, 2007 READ ME |
