Lisa & Ro's Excellent Adventure Ahhh...it's the five year anniversary of the trip Lisa and I took to NYC. In memory, I've decided to re-publish the goofy emails we sent from the cute internet cafe by our hotel. Enjoy.
Yes, we're actually here and taking time out of our very busy schedule to email you. Where should we begin..... Picture it: A ticket counter in beautiful Santa Barbara, where the ticket agent had to ask Lisa "Have these bags been out of your control since you packed them? Did anyone give you any controlled substances to put in your bag?" TWICE!! Yes, we guess we looked so suspicious. After a full night of no sleep, we finally begin our approach to JFK. That's when we notice "Barf Boy" aka one of our friendly flight attendents who has now taken his jump seat next to Ro with his barf bag in hand. We weren't quite sure whether to be amused or to duck. Luckily he managed to hold everything in and we never had to make a decision. Following a typical NYC cab ride to the hotel, we checked in. The room was a tad used and we were concerned enough to check for a body in the bathtub. Finding none, we called the front desk to inform them of their error and were checked into a clean room. No rest for the weary... we proceeded to attend six workshops on no sleep. Although, catnaps did occur during some sessions. We did find out that there is only one man in the entire NYC Hilton who is allowed to change the VCR set up on the TVs. In case you need his help in the future his name is Larry. Remember he's THE ONLY ONE ALLOWED TO CHANGE THE SET UP. We also were thoroughly confused by the "new" walls that kept appearing on every floor, cutting us off from our original entrances. Thank God one of us has a sense of direction or we'd still be trapped in the Hilton Maze. Being very tired and extremely punchy, we returned to our room for brief respite and then we got hungry. So of course we had to walk all the way to Times Square just to check things out. We saw some amusing boy band, "Soul Decision" or some equally annoying name, performing on MTV's Total Request Live. We did flash our best smiles at the camera when they panned the crowd. Moving on we decided on the theme for our photo tour of Manhatten...."Interesting Signs" We started with the logical choice "The Virgin MegaStore". Moving on ..... After a long night's sleep, at least a combined 24 hours, we prepared for day 2. Thankfully we only had 2 workshops to attend. We hit Schlottzky's for bagels and coffee. Not to bad, then again what the hell can you do to bagels and coffee? We were a tad concerned about the waitress passed out on the table two down from us. But apparently we were the only ones. Like all good teachers, we scrambled for freebies in the extremely hot & stuffy exhibit Hall. We attended one workshop that had nothing whatsoever to do with it's title. We attempted to attend the second workshop, but it was beyond SRO (think hard and you'll figure out what it means) So we returned to the hotel to dump our haul before going to Jeckyll & Hyde. Picture it the Haunted Mansion meets the Tiki Room. Highly amusing. Brian you really should check this place out, it's definitely you. We even had our picture taken with your namesake skeleton outside. We spent the rest of the afternoon shopping (DUH!!) Once again we were hungry so we ate at Ben Ash Deli. After that we rested our tired feet and prepared for our evening on Broadway. The Music Man...front row, a few seats off dead center...OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!!! So amazing. There are no words to describe it. Well, we can try...GORGEOUS HUNKY LEAD ACTOR to start with. When Harlod Hill (the main character for those of you who've never seen it) asked the River City crowd if anyone would take his body in, Ro had to sit on her hands to keep from pointing at Lisa. Lisa almost got spit on (she wasn't complaining). We almost got souvenir library cards, but Ro used her not so quiet whisper, and the conductor snatched them away. We thought of Kelly when they sang the song about kisses on the third date...then regained our composure and watched the rest of the show. Did we mention OH MY GOD it was fabulous?! Back to Ben and Ash for dessert...we earned it with all this walking! Today, after a rather uneventful day of workshops, visiting the Monkey Bar (they don't have shot glasses Alisa. We tried!! Got you matches instead), and some more shopping...we're off to dinner and Rent. No front row this time, so don't be too jealous. That's all for now. Maybe we'll check in tomorrow. Maybe not...
