"Her name was April"
Bailey is ďjust starting to be a teeny-tiny bit in loveĒ (his words) with a girl in his class, April. She came over today and they went to rest on his bunk bed and share a box of conversation hearts. If they werenít a mere six years old, that would actually be quite romantic!
Itís been ages since Iíve properly updated. At this point, I think itís time to just shoot for a bulleted list...
*Iím afraid that weíve started the kids on the path towards hallucinogenic drug use. We took them to a laser light show at the planetarium last night. The music was Sergeant Peppers Lonely Heartís Club Band and they both loved it. Unfortunately, Jared couldnít last in the dark and fell asleep about a third of the way through the show.
*The new semester started at work this week. I had more than half of my students change classes. Iím not talking about changing their schedule around and winding up in another of my classes. Iím talking about getting over 90 students coming in from other teachers. I guess the issue is that with me teaching the split 7th/8th schedule, there wasnít as much wiggle room for kids who needed to change to another of my class periods. More than half the day Iím not teaching their grade level. Supposedly this wonít be happening next year.
*On top of kid schedule changes, I had to get projects graded and final grades turned in to the office. Tons of work, but the kids did some really great projects so I was pleased.
*The past two weekends weíve headed out of town for Gaucho basketball games. The boys won at Davis, lost at Cal Poly. My kids had a blast and it was nice for me and Ryan to see a couple of games.
*My astronomy class is pretty fun. We were supposed to have our first midterm this week, but itís been pushed back until the 7th now. Iíve stayed on top of my reading and studying so Iím not freaking out about the test (yet!).
*I finally decided to jump on the bandwagon and watch Lost. Over the past couple of weeks Iíve seen the first season (I love getting DVDís in the mail!). Itís safe to say that Iím intrigued so far.
*Jared and I watched School of Rock the other night. It was better than I thought it would be. I mean, donít get me wrong, it was a dumb movie. But, it was that good, funny kind of dumb. I was entertained. Jared didnít recognize his hero, Adam Pascal, with a mullet. He kept asking me when Adam was going to be on and I kept saying, ďHeís right there.Ē I finally had to laughÖafter the 5th time through this conversation!
*The other 8th grade science teachers and I decided on what to do with the kids who stay at school during Yosemite week. Since Iíll be the only science teacher on campus (couldnít get away that week because I have a midterm and Alisaís bridal shower) I offered to put together the unit. Weíre going to do a forensic science CSI thing. Iím excited!
*Speaking of the bridal shower, I got all the materials to make the invitations yesterday. I ordered my dress last week. The wedding is getting closer and closer. When they started planning it was so far away. Now, itís time for all of the pre-wedding festivities. Iím swamped with planning, but in a good way.
And now, Iím tired and I have lesson planning to do and flashcards to study still tonight. Iíd rather read until I finish my book, though. I donít feel all that great, either. Iím on the verge of just writing out some lesson plans and calling in for tomorrow.
