"And it's beginning to snow"
Weíve arrived in Reno. We are staying in one pretty small hotel room, but so far weíre all still getting along and no children have been threatened with bodily injury if they donít settle down. Could be that we didnít make it into the room until 8pm and still had to grab some dinner, so they are pooped! Right now the boys are vegging on separate beds and watching some incredibly stupid show on Cartoon Network. Yes, I have succumbed to the electronic babysitter. They are calm and resting, so I donít even feel guilty about it. It means that I get to sneak on here for a few minutes.
We didnít leave the house until about 12:30 today. It was raining and snowing in the mountains during the early morning hours and was supposed to clear by early afternoon. Yeah, that didnít happen. We were lucky enough to not need the chains, but we were driving over Donner Summit with some pretty good snow falling and sticking to the ground. I know, I know, some of you are thinking, ďSo what?Ē but Iím a California girl and I donít see snow very often! The boys were so excited I thought they wouldnít be able to sit still. We stopped at a gas station and let them out to play in the snow. I took pictures but my camera is giving me trouble and they were all blurry. At any rate, they got to have their first snowball fight, laugh at the snowflakes in mommyís hair, and slip-slide around the ground. Iím telling you, we could have headed home at that point and they would have felt fulfilled!
Still, after all that time driving in less-than-desirable (yet better than weíve done before) I was so happy to see the tacky neon lights of Reno! We found a pretty good parking spot and headed into the lobby to find an enormous check-in line. It took almost an hour to check-in and amazingly the boys were pretty good most of that time. Bailey waited in line with Daddy while Jared and I sat with the luggage and sang songs. When we got into our room the boys unloaded their suitcases into some drawers and then we ran down to the 24 hour coffee shop for dinner. After dinner they put on their pjís, we lit the Hanukkah candles, opened gifts, and they settled down pretty quickly.
Tomorrow will include a trip to play in the snow somewhere (and I will get decent pictures!) and Iím sure some arcade games at Circus Circus. Ryan is off gambling now and Iím hoping the kids will drift off to sleep soon!
Highlights of the car trip:
*They boys getting way too excited because we stopped for lunch at Mimiís Cafť (which theyíve eaten at before, but not since discovering Rent)
*Jared asking a million times when the rain would turn into snow, then not believing me when I said that it was snow now
*Bailey not getting carsick
On a different track, today is the one year anniversary of Julieís death. I knew it was coming, I knew it was today, but I managed to not think about it until I logged on tonight and got a beautiful email from a friend of hers that I have never even met.
I bawled, freaked the kids out, and now miss her more than ever!
