"And it's beginning to snow" Weve arrived in Reno. We are staying in one pretty small hotel room, but so far were all still getting along and no children have been threatened with bodily injury if they dont settle down. Could be that we didnt make it into the room until 8pm and still had to grab some dinner, so they are pooped! Right now the boys are vegging on separate beds and watching some incredibly stupid show on Cartoon Network. Yes, I have succumbed to the electronic babysitter. They are calm and resting, so I dont even feel guilty about it. It means that I get to sneak on here for a few minutes. We didnt leave the house until about 12:30 today. It was raining and snowing in the mountains during the early morning hours and was supposed to clear by early afternoon. Yeah, that didnt happen. We were lucky enough to not need the chains, but we were driving over Donner Summit with some pretty good snow falling and sticking to the ground. I know, I know, some of you are thinking, So what? but Im a California girl and I dont see snow very often! The boys were so excited I thought they wouldnt be able to sit still. We stopped at a gas station and let them out to play in the snow. I took pictures but my camera is giving me trouble and they were all blurry. At any rate, they got to have their first snowball fight, laugh at the snowflakes in mommys hair, and slip-slide around the ground. Im telling you, we could have headed home at that point and they would have felt fulfilled! Still, after all that time driving in less-than-desirable (yet better than weve done before) I was so happy to see the tacky neon lights of Reno! We found a pretty good parking spot and headed into the lobby to find an enormous check-in line. It took almost an hour to check-in and amazingly the boys were pretty good most of that time. Bailey waited in line with Daddy while Jared and I sat with the luggage and sang songs. When we got into our room the boys unloaded their suitcases into some drawers and then we ran down to the 24 hour coffee shop for dinner. After dinner they put on their pjs, we lit the Hanukkah candles, opened gifts, and they settled down pretty quickly. Tomorrow will include a trip to play in the snow somewhere (and I will get decent pictures!) and Im sure some arcade games at Circus Circus. Ryan is off gambling now and Im hoping the kids will drift off to sleep soon! Highlights of the car trip: *They boys getting way too excited because we stopped for lunch at Mimis Caf (which theyve eaten at before, but not since discovering Rent) *Jared asking a million times when the rain would turn into snow, then not believing me when I said that it was snow now *Bailey not getting carsick *This conversation: On a different track, today is the one year anniversary of Julies death. I knew it was coming, I knew it was today, but I managed to not think about it until I logged on tonight and got a beautiful email from a friend of hers that I have never even met. I bawled, freaked the kids out, and now miss her more than ever! 0 comments Listening to: Reading: Eating/drinking: Do what to me?!? - April 24, 2007 Wicked funny websearch - April 05, 2007 Trot out the dogs 'n ponies - March 31, 2007 Almost done... - March 20, 2007 Who am I? - March 12, 2007 READ ME |
