Santa Barbara Santa Barbara was great! We got in early enough to take the boys for a visit with Lisa's mom at the nursing home. This was their first exposure to a setting like that and it freaked Bailey out at first. I don't know if it was seeing a lot of people in wheel chairs that did it or just the simple fact that he was the center of attention and he got shy. It doesn't really matter. The fact is that both boys were appropriately charming and childish, which the residents loved. We squeezed in time for a nap (we did leave the house at a ridiculous hour of the morning after all). Well, 3 of us took a nap. Jared felt it was his duty to stay awake and jump on Daddy. Bailey and I were out cold on the other bed and I didn't hear a thing. Bummer, eh? We spent Friday night downtown with Kim and Lisa. We decided to brave the wait at Palazzio, which ended up being about 30 minutes. Since the boys were able to run around outside, it wasn't too awful. They were on their best behavior in the restaurant, which definitely made for a pleasant evening. After dinner we walked down to Borders and spent a while hanging out. Of course, Kim and I have an impossible time walking into a bookstore and not finding something absolutely hilarious to set us off. Friday night was no exception. We discovered a couple of gems in the children's section. After freaking out a bunch of parents by giggling incessantly over the children's books we headed to the cafe for a coffee. Lisa mangaged to find a book called Its Happy Bunny, Whats Your Sign?, which is a very tongue-in-cheek horoscope book. This provided a good half hour of entertainment and laughing fits hard enough to cause Lisa to spit coffee all over Kim's shoulder (which just set off even more laughter). It got late and we figured that the kids needed to get some sleep. Amazingly, they actually got ready for bed and fell asleep without much fuss. Saturday morning I took the boys into the lobby for breakfast while Ryan showered. They were apparently undernourished and starving because they both ate a ton of food. We were there long enough for Ryan to shower, pack up his bag, and eat with us. We went back to the room and Ryan tossed the boys into the tub while I packed up. Then he entertained them while I showered and we headed out to the birthday party. The party was wonderful! About 10-12 families were able to make it. I got to see kids that I haven't seen in 2 years...some who I was able to recognize and some that I swear I've never seen before. I spent a lot of time catching up with Julie's husband, Don, and my friend, Dagny. Bailey was a little bummed at first because all of the other kids knew each other and were playing. He had a hard time breaking into the "cliques" at first. But, it wasn't long before he was building sand castles and running through the bushes with everyone else. After the party we spent some time at Lisa's house. Basically the boys (including Ryan) were left to entertain themselves while we worked on some Rolodex cards for a scrapbook swap. Hee hee! After that we went to dinner at Santa Barbara Brewing Company. Jared could not stay in his seat and repeatedly headed to the doorway to talk with the scantily clad hostess. It really starts early, doesn't it?!? We left downtown and went to another Borders so that the boys could run around and be free before the car ride home. We got on the road around 8:30. The boys crashed out early. We only had to make one quick stop, and the trip home was a child-in-car record of 4 hours. past | future0 comments Listening to: Reading: Eating/drinking: Do what to me?!? - April 24, 2007 Wicked funny websearch - April 05, 2007 Trot out the dogs 'n ponies - March 31, 2007 Almost done... - March 20, 2007 Who am I? - March 12, 2007 READ ME |
