It is so difficult to come back that first morning after a school break. I always feel like it's the first day of school all over again. As I'm driving to work I get that sense of butterflies in my stomach and can't remember what I planned to teach that day. Then I walk into my room. All I have to say about that is thank goodness I am hyper-organized at work! Everything is neat and in exactly the right place. Today's agenda is on the board. And, I was even quite smart about it. I planned a reading day in science and a test review day in math. That means no direct teaching of new concepts for me today. I'm giving myself a day to get back into the groove. Wow!
As I was driving in this morning, I was convinced that I had yard duty. My umbrella is broken. I had this image of me standing out in the rain then being wet and irritable for the rest of the day. But, no yard duty until next week. Huge sigh of relief! Except, then I sat here at my desk wondering what to do with my 30 minutes before school started. Copy stuff? Nope. Done for the year. Copier is down anyway (always is the day after a break). Lesson plan? Nope. Done for the year. Correct papers? Nope. Done, I wish for the year, but until later today.
And, you're looking at how I decided to spend my prep time this morning.
48 more days that I have to get up for work this year.past | future
